I have to start with an honest statement: I never thought art could be digital. I am more than sorry about that. For those of you that have been creating digital art...my apologies from the bottom of my heart!!
This is the price of my ignorance on this matter. In this marvelous world of technology and the internet, I met brilliant and talented souls creating wonderful art and making a good living with digital art. I was really confused when I found a lot of art that I loved that never imagined it was digital.
After learning pattern design I wanted to fix my hand drawings digitally for a better look. One of my sons gave me a Wacom Tablet which I never got to use because I never learned to use it. Then I met a few wonderful and super talented artists who most of their licensed art was created digitally. I know that they are great with the art created with the hand, the brush, and paints, and that fact made me rethink the artist and the digital art.
One of those artists created an online class for making patterns and the first drawings she showed were all created with the IPad Pro and Apple Pen. I was mesmerized by the results and the amazing possibilities. I had to have that IPad Pro and this time I was committed to learning. I bought the IPAD Pro 12.9 inches and 512 GB that you can see here. (Disclaimer: I am a member of the Amazon Associate Program and if you buy anything using any of the links where it takes you to your amazon account I will receive a small percentage commission. No cost will be added to the final price of the things you buy).
If you have an IPad Pro you can buy Procreate for a super small price. The program works wonders. I enrolled on Skillshare where for only $15 per month you can have so many classes that you will never have enough time to take, all the ones you need or want. In a matter of days, I learned to draw with the pen in Procreate, which is similar to PhotoShop but there are things that are a lot easier to manage.
Let me tell you this: IT IS ADDICTIVE. I think Procreate and the Apple Pen were created for people like me. It is the best purchase I have ever made. Can you imagine using the same brush for everything, I mean, EVERYTHING. This program can even allow you to create your own brushes and it is like magic. I am not an expert still but I feel I know enough to create digital art.
I have to address that there is a newer version of the IPad Pro than the one I bought and it needs a different pen. Please check everything before buying because I had to make some returns before having the right match of the IPAD Pro and the Apple Pen. In the newer version, the Pen can be recharged in a more efficient way.
After enrolling in a few courses I tried recreating my collage papers and the art created with them. I was really impressed with the result and I couldn't stop. Seriously, I put all my effort to overcome the Procreate Addiction. The important thing for me to know was that I found a way to create more art from anywhere. I was praying for this and here it is.
I do continue making ceramics for some stores. I will definitely continue my acrylic and collage painting journey but now I can make the art I want for my business in a creative and easier way. Every day I learn something new with Procreate. I am really grateful for the creators of this amazing tool. I am really surprised when people ask me what I am doing, and my answer is, "I am making more digital art".
After much thinking and evaluating my hands' condition with arthritis I decided to make a lot less ceramic and other products where I have to make an effort with my hands and fingers. This means that the IPAD and Procreate came to my rescue because I found so many things I can create that I am ADDICTED.
New products have been born like stickers, cards, digital collage papers, and many downloadable products. My goal is to have my Etsy shop full of these downloadable digital or digitally reworked art products.
Below you will see a few things I have created and some art created by my granddaughters who are 6 and 9 years old. Every day they come to visit they want to make something new and they have learned a lot. Never imagined this tool will give me so many hours of enjoyment!
Digital Papers:
Here are a few things I have created using the digital papers and the Clipping Mask tool on both PhotoShop and Procreate.
On the Affirmation Card, I used 3 or 4 different papers and in the letter A two. You can see that the border was created with a different paper. In the letter A, I worked over the paper on Procreate to add a different look. This letter and every detail on it was completely worked on Procreate.
For the watermelon pieces, I used two papers plus a bit of reworked with Procreate. The letters were added with PhotoShop. I made a banner to celebrate my granddaughter's and my son's birthday at my home. I even made a few small pieces to decorate the cake. Our main language is Spanish and that is why the pieces will form FELIZ CUMPLEANOS. This is a product I will be adding to the downloadable products at my Print My Art Studio Shop on Etsy.
It is my goal to start a series of tutorials for ceramic, collage, and of course digital art with Procreate. Until I have everything set with the videos I will be sharing tips and some instructions through PDFs or in the same post. Also, I have a Facebook Group for people who enjoy DIY projects. For the moment only the Spanish group is open but as soon as I have everything set on this page I'll start the English version of this Facebook Group.
In the next couple of blogs, I will share more of what I have learned in this Digital Art world and Procreate and how you can use my downloadable art to make your own products or gifts.
Until next time..stay safe and enjoy every bit of your time here on Earth. Not always easy but keep trying!!
