So happy that today is Tuesday. It is the day I chose to make and share a craft. I just love fabric and the possibility of unlimited ideas to create with it! Mostly, I love to see my art printed on fabric and enjoy how it looks on different items. Today I am sharing the fabric pouches because I really love bags made with creative fabric designs. .
To make the pouches I used almost the same steps of a tutorial found in YouTube from Jenny Doan, which I am sharing at the end of the post.
The first pouch I sew today is made with two pieces of canvas fabric, two pieces of cotton fabric lining in a contrasting color and a zipper. The steps are almost the same as the tutorial except that my pouch does not have the fusible fleece like the one in the tutorial and it is made with the same fabric. For this one I draw and hand painted a small garden with a bee. The painting is not finished but I can do that later with the pouched finished. For the design on the canvas I used a fine point black permanent ink marker and Jacquard textile paints.
The materials are listed in the image below:
I love the finished pouch and it already has my new fabric markers inside.
The next pouch was made with one of my fabric panels featuring the colorful houses of my gorgeous Old San Juan in Puerto Rico. This piece of fabric measures 8.5" x 7.5" and it can be used also to make a mask like the one I am selling on Etsy. You can buy this fabric piece on my Etsy store and have the opportunity to make something unique and beautiful with it!
All the materials I used are listed on the image below:
I wanted to practice free stitching in the pouch and added fusible fleece to create a different look. I am just beginning to practice free stitching so it is not a professional look but I like it anyway.
I used a piece of linen for the back and in the following images you can see the detail of the free stitching and the end and beginning of the zipper in a contrasting color. Instructions to sew the zipper this way are in the tutorial of Jenny Doan in a link I share.
This was the first tutorial I found on YouTube in my search a few years ago and it is the one that I like most. She adds fusible fleece to the fabric and the look is gorgeous! In a matter of days I made lots of pouches using her instructions and pieces of fabric bought at Joann's fabric store. After practicing with some pouches I stared using my fabric. I just love to see the look of my fabric designs on them. You can find that amazing tutorial by Jenny Doan here. I recorded some of the steps for making the pouch but the tutorial I am sharing is so good that you really don't need any more videos. I will used my videos to practice more on video editing, ufff... totally out of my comfort zone but... I can do it!!
I hope you found this post useful and that you can be inspired to make things that brings a smile on you! I can assure you that making those pouches, including the collage paintings of the Old San Juan houses and drawing and paint the canvas fabric brought me lots of smiles.
Stay safe, you are much loved!
