It's Tuesday and it's time to make some crafts. Today, again, the craft is with fabric and I will share tow projects.
The first one is a placemat using my Autumn Leaves fabric. My fabrics are printed in Spoonflower and I adore the quality. I have to admit that what I love most is the opportunity to have my designs printed in fabric.
To make the placemat I cut one piece 12.5" x 17.5" of the Autumn Leaves fabric , one piece (same size) of a matching cotton fabric (orange), one piece of batting and one piece of interfacing. Batting and interfacing were 11.5" x 16.5" to avoid the bulkiness of the sides and corners. The Autumn Leaves fabric can be bought in my Spoonflower store here.
You can watch any tutorial on YouTube like the one below. There are lots. Dimensions may vary and I added batting to my placemat. If using batting it is important to baste it to the fabric before sewing because to avoid misplacement. You can search other videos where batting is used for the placemat.
As I wrote in the previous post, I am practicing free stitching to make quilted projects. You can see the image with the stitches in both sides. It is far from perfect because I am just learning and still managing to make a good uniform stitch. The fabric type I used for my placemat is Petal Signature Cotton but I prefer Linen Cotton canvas.
For the second project I used one of the square fabric panels I sell on my ETSY Shop. It Features the flower of the Flame three, this one in yellow. The flame trees can have flowers in orange, red or yellow. Maybe there are more colors but those are the ones I have seen in Puerto Rico.
I sew the small potholder using two 6.5" x 6.5" fabric panels, two pieces of insulating batting fleece and a 2" x 5" piece of yellow cotton fabric. With the video I am sharing below you can learn how to make a beautiful potholder. The insulating batting I found can be used in any of the sides.
My potholder is smaller but it's okay for me. I am planning of adding to the store larger fabric squares that can be used for larger potholders.
As you can see, my potholder is already hanging on my kitchen.
I hope you found this post useful. I am enjoying using my fabrics for crafts and very happy to share my art with craft and fabric lovers to make their own projects. I am very pleased to know that I sold a few of the fabric panels to two customers in United Kingdom...The sky is the limit... Onward!
Stay Safe, Embrace the moment,
From my heart,
Elizabeth Claire
